AI visibility terms, defined plainly

AEO and GEO language gets fuzzy quickly. This glossary defines the terms TrackAIMentions uses in free checks, Snapshot reports, and methodology pages.

AI visibility

How often and how clearly a brand appears in AI-generated answers when buyers ask category, use-case, comparison, or problem questions.

Organic AI visibility

Visibility measured from prompts where the buyer does not name the target brand. TrackAIMentions uses this as the main report score.

LLM visibility

Brand visibility inside large language model answers, including whether the brand is mentioned, recommended, listed first, or framed against competitors.

AI Share of Voice

A broad industry term for how much presence a brand has in AI answers relative to competitors. TrackAIMentions uses the more specific organic visibility metric for report scoring.

Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)

Work that helps AI answer systems understand, trust, and cite a brand when generating direct answers.

Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)

A strategy for improving how generative AI systems mention, summarize, recommend, and compare brands.

Prompt evidence

The prompt-level answers, snippets, citations, and competitor mentions that support a report finding or recommendation.

Listed first

A metric showing whether the target brand was the first recommendation in an organic AI answer.

Selected alternatives

The competitor brands chosen by the user for the main report comparison.

Other names mentioned

Additional brands, products, models, or sources that AI mentioned but were not part of the confirmed competitor list.

Citation context

Source evidence attached to an AI answer when the answer source exposes citations. Citation depth can differ by answer source.

Snapshot report

A one-time AI visibility report that expands beyond the free check with more buyer questions, selected competitor comparison, answer evidence, and specific actions.
